Sign up here to become a Rimworld colonist

Which ever the group needs the most.

Alright, one point invested in a combat skill (melee), the other in cooking. Since Tim's cooking skill is about 2 (anything bellow 5 produces meals that give food poisoning), a field of weed was planted

and Tim was employed to roll the reefers (this somehow trains the cooking skill)

and butcher the hunted animals. While the weed won't be used in the colony except by our junky pyromaniac, it does bring the money from the trade caravans and trains both agriculture and cooking.

The refugees left the Ediot's colony

Near the end of year one, commissar Heidi had every reason to be pleased, all of the goals of his five year plan were met, and the Ediots were slowly leaving behind their antiquated way of life, and stepping boldly into the age of iron and gunpowder, and the age of electricity was also not far off
tier1n2.jpg

With the most pressing concernes resolved, the Ediots could relax and make their plans according to the needs and circumstances that will arise. Commissar Heidi now set up a goal of Ediots taking up animal husbandry, by building a grand animal pen with a capacity to sustain 15 muffalos, or 30 goats, or 50 chickens (this left many Ediots shaking heads in disbelief - how can somebody have so many goats and chickens?)
The pen was built next to the barracks, and first the muffalos were tamed, their meat will improve the Ediots diet, their wool will give them warmth on harshest winters

Pharmacological breakthroughs gave us our first go juice, ensuring the survival and combat readiness of the colony's children

and Lurk got his meth

Two days before the end of the year one, six strong neanderthal raid attacked from two different directions. You may have a general idea about how dangerous neanderthals are, if you don't, they are basically slower moving hussars that are too retarded to use firearms, but suffer no addiction. Heidi and Lurk countered two of the closest ones
neanraid1.jpg

when one went down Heidi reinforced the musketeers, and Tim was sent to aid Lurk, but there was no need
lurkvscockroach.jpg

things were looking bad for the musketeers even with Heidi's arrival, and this left them no choice but to use the shock lance that was obtained for future mechanoid encounters. Two out of four neanderthals went down, and minty's musket ball blowing the head of the third one broke the will of the last, and he fled.

The Ediots took prisoners, bandaged their wounded, and breathed a sigh of relief. Later on there was a jailbreak
jaibreak.jpg

And now a short detour to a topic of beauty. Here is the room after the jailbreak was stopped
beauty2.jpg

the red numbers with a minus represent the ugliness, and since the room was shortly an abattoir, its impressivness went from "somewhat impressive" to "awful". This affects the colonists mood negatively, and Helios had a tantrum and broke shit around the colony. Cleaning stuff up resolves this kind of an issue. Room beuty can be raised by works of art, potted plants and fancy floor tiles. Also flowers can be planted. Here we see commissar Heidi planting the daylilies

On day one of year two, Randy turned up the heat. First were the mad muffalos
Year2day1.jpg

Ediots barricaded themselves and waited 'til the rampaging animals got tired and fell asleep. Then, on the 7th day, Randy sent another gift
ohlord.jpg

well at least there are no tesserons. Set up a no go zone for the Ediots
nogozone.jpg

as soon as I did that, Randy, again
boomrats.jpg

Took care of that, with Heidi ending up in bed for two days due to burns. The moment the boomrats were done:

The hares were too far from the Ediots, so they savagely rushed the mechanoids and were blown to hundreds of fluffy pieces
rabbitscharge.jpg

The ediots still have only muskets, no smoke granades to cover their approach, no long range snipers to harass, no 240s. There is one shock lance, to take care of the "infantry" mechs, but what of the turrets? They are picking off the visitors from other factions, how are the Ediots to trade?
threattocommerce.jpg

Sent Heidi to try rescue at least one
heiditotherescue.jpg

he made it and fixed her wounds
jump.jpg

which I regreted, because the dummy immediatelly headed home, straight through the turret's firing line, with stray shots reaching the Ediots and their dwelling.
regret.jpg

still, with luck and cover from the trees, she somehow survived
madeit.jpg

and Randy turned up the heat some more

Still don't know how to resolve the mech situation, though I have a vague idea.

randy is just trying to kill us in the slowest way possible.
Oh it's quite fast, this all happened in a 5min span. Once he dropped 3 mech clusters at the same time, one had that dinamo thing that turns off all the electricity. All the turrets in my killbox died. Tried to sneak out people on a caravan, one lost his mind, walked into a turret range, got killed, others broke because he was left in the open unburried, you can imagine the rest.

OK, so, I accepted this quest
guestquest.jpg

What luck, she's a genie.
guestgenie.jpg

First step is researching energy shields, making some decent armor. Then we need to somehow take out the footsoldiers, because when the turrets run out of ammo, they get an orbital drop and footies reload them. Then we finally have a use for our friend.
pyrofag.jpg

We dress him up in good armor, give him a shield, and have him run in'n'out the turret range until they spend their ammo. If he doesn't make it, we still have visitors. Eventually we can safely walk up and just smash them.

randy is bein' a prankster gangster

He is a piece of work. Either raid after raid after raid, or a nerve wrackingly long period of peace followed by a 3 different raids all at the same time or drop pods with milk raining from the sky. Cassandra wouldn't send 6 neandertals this early in the game, I think. Not that she's easy, choice between Randy and Cassandra is a choice between putting a barrel to the temple or in the mouth.

Shit.
Well, another neanderthal raid rolled in, and musketeers were sent to soften them up
softenneanderthals.jpg

the retards finally gave chase, knocking minty down, and the battle was joined, and won, with a shock lance again
battlewon.jpg

during the retreat, some bitch started dragging minty away to the neanderthal rape caves or wherever
bitch.jpg

I had Heidi longjump after her and he managed to recover minto
rescued.jpg

but while I was busy with that, Lurk bought the farm by friendly fire
firstdeath.jpg

I've placed him in the freezer, and I hope that I can get a quest that would grant me a specific archotech item that can bring him back, but the chances are small, and solar flares take out power constantly, which will thaw and ruin the body.
