The largest consumer, the US, uses almost 20 million barrels per day and it basically doesn’t use Persian Gulf oil. Other countries that produce oil also have no need for Persian Gulf oil and they also export to other nations. So those 400 tankers in the Gulf represent a significant amount of petroleum capacity that exceeds the “one or two days” supply of oil claim.
Most importantly, once there’s free flowing back and forth container traffic in the Gulf, oil deliveries will quickly get back on schedule.
