Film recs

while we are talking movies
probably the coolest action movie most of you have never seen, it's fucking great

The sound effects are laughable. The number of times someone would stand up and run INTO gunfire was ridiculous.

Sir, I believe this must be an attempt to mock gangster movies.
mock this all you want, john woo's films influenced more or less 90% of the action in cinema today.
his sequences are less to do with logic and has more to do with flow and how the camera moves with the action.

its a slow burner. what did you think of the scene where she falls down to that pit thing? that had me on the edges....
The movie is obviously a B-movie with a tiny budget. The audio is sub-par because of all the dubbing and the acting is clearly not the best. Maybe at the time it was released it developed a loyal following due to its unusual story, but in my opinion it doesn’t really hold up to modern filmmaking.

Right now I finished oldboy, and honestly, i have to kind of uh. Swallow this. Before i turn to Lady Vengance.
I think I’ve seen most of that film, but I wouldn’t watch it again because it’s so violent and disturbing.

an absolute fucking horror film classic

sadly its dubbed, if you want the original in Italian, go to internet archives

i like your taste, old chum

i'll lean into the same vein.
another good argento horror film that's heavily visually inspired is inferno
here's the full film
there's a lot of light play, beautiful architecture, and gorgeous set design/building interiors here and i love it

I've heard many good things about inferno! That'll be my weekend watch. right now I'm going through this gem I found on the IA. Once upon a time in America the directors extended cut!

apperantly can't be found in hard copy anymore so thank you whoever uploaded this gem to the IA.

i finally watched skinamarink
i think if it were trying to do one of the two things it's attempting to do (1. be creepy, 2. be artsy) that it would be amazing. in its attempt to do both it ends up going on too long and leaving the plot dragging. for creepy it would've made a nice 30 minute short film. for artsy it should've avoided the plot altogether

i still recommend, despite the flaws. there's a lot of cool visual light play in the dimly lit rooms. it's got some nice aesthetic shots. if you put it on solely for the visuals and try to forget that it's trying to have a plot it's nice to look up every once in a while and see the way the dark swirls in the corners of the screen
