yeah, a lot of the "tech bros" have been talking like this for a long time. it's like they subconsciously think their singularity will either lead to virtual immortality or a deus ex machina, "god from machine" (that they can control). they have the resources to do it too and im too tired to try and fight it so im just going to ride the tiger.
