Treadwell found an old alpha male bear that he personally knew for a long time. The old alpha male was out competed that year and was going to starve. The grizzly bear ate Timothy alive. The girlfriend tried to hit the bear with a weapon or something to make it stop. Tim told his girlfriend to run. She did. The grizzly followed her for several miles and killed her as well.
