Another great watch is a brutal Brazilian crime movie called City of God from 2002. It starts out quite boring but amps up the violence fast, displaying a country where kids kill each other for a penny. It focuses on a couple of characters and their arcs in a hellscape called Brazil.

Finally watched this after first accidentally downloading some modern remake of it. Not the most enjoyable as a movie, but it sticks around as a one to remember. I like how the main character, the dude who goes "what if he's innocent" oddly has some perfect millisecond time clock programmed into...
