Ok so read all the Phantasy Star articles on the wiki because the article for the second one was on the front page for some reason.
They sound bad.

Phantasy Star is cyberpunk? I thought it's sci-fi/science fantasyPhantasy Star II is dated as fuck but it's still a better Cyberpunk game than Eurojank 2077.

wow, that sounds like a weird version of Ultima 2 mixed with TerminatorPhantasy Star 1 & 4 are basically Star Wars. Phantasy Star 3 is mainly fantasy with very limited sci-fi shit. Phantasy Star 2 is definitely what I'd consider to be cyberpunk.
The whole story is basically that humanity became dependent on a super-computer which then ended up going completely haywire. Society is in the process of completely breaking down, and after you beat the first boss and clear out all the biomonsters, the dams break and the government sends robots after your party who are now seen as terrorists. Once you deal with that shit, you end up getting captured, watching the planet from PS1 get blown to pieces and then head off to the ice planet where the Namekians live - which is really the only portion of the game that has heavy fantasy elements.

Phantasy Star 1 was not too bad, at least when trying to remember to compare it with comparable games like Dragon Warrior 1 and Final Fantasy 1. The story helped keep the game moving, despite it being kinda short.
Phantasy Star 2 is slow and boring, and way too grindy. Walk slowly to this one empty warehouse, get the girl (who turns into an item), give her to her dad who accidentally kills her then commits suicide... then walk slowly to the next empty warehouse. I sincerely hope it gets a bit more exciting soon.
The Weapon Shop girl is kinda cute tho.

That said, this big-hair 80's cyberpunk schtick is the only thing making me want to continue playing Phantasy Star 2.
