I honestly only played this because I had "Saya's Song" stuck in my head for like a week and thought to myself at 1 AM today to finally give the stupid VN a go (knowing I wasn't going to like it). Anyways I did manage to play it through in like 3 sittings since it was short but Jesus Christ was it actually awful. I also got every ending so before any dudebro with nonce particles inside them gets rowdy thinking I only got one ending or something, CALM DOWN.
I liked certain concepts of the game such as Saya being a sort of "idol" to Fuminori, but I genuinely wished the game didn't try cramming down stupid unnecessary sex scenes down our throats like "heh... isn't this EVIL and DARKSIDED? take a glimpse at Urobuchi's DARK and TWISTED mind... heh". Like great, thanks Urobuchi I don't like you. Everyone and their grandma is like nnooo nooo these sexual scenes are supposed to cement how far gone Fuminori is and how he's losing his humanity and like it's to show how he and Saya are the only lonely people in each other's worlds and- BLAH BLAH BLAH I DONT CARE. IT SUCKS. If I'm being real the sex scenes with Fuminori feel like an excuse for men to find a way to feel aroused during these scenes because clearly they were trying to hit some sort of erotic points for the reader. There are so many things that could have been done better to still prove that Fuminori is a horrible human being without it resorting to sex. Was it really? The amount of pretensiousness was off the charts, and it wasn't even vaguely subtle as it is in Lain or Evangelion. In Psycho-Pass you get characters namedropping a dozen famous authors (mostly Western authors, with only one Jap as far as I remember) and there is usually not even a point to it. Like when Masaoka brings up Rousseau and Tsunemori mentions game theory and the whole thing has nearly no fucking relation to what they were discussing.

The same for True Detective (the TV show), where you have one of the misanthropic characters quote Ligotti when speaking about humanity and consciousness. They're using philosophers/authors to actually enhance the story, whereas in Psycho Pass it feels like the characters are just namedropping authors all the time and quoting philosophers and speaking about how they like Paperback books because some association between reading and smart people and they can make the characters look smarter if they have a conversation about random authors.

When I watch something like Evangelion or Madoka it's entirely just for the emotional value that I got when watching it the first time. Symbolism, philosophy, and characters dying left and right doesn't interest me or make me feel happy or entertained in any sort of way. If I want that I'll read through my psychology textbook again. That's not what entertainment or anime is for and watching for that reason makes you come across as a very boring or pretentious individual. Anime is here to make me happy and relaxed and "serious" shows tend to have the opposite effect.
Now compare that to other animes that try to be "serious". That anime would spent most of the time building up the characters in predictable fashion while the viewer is alieanated because the viewer is being forced to relate to this person. I don't know about you but I can't relate to fictional characters let along real people. I'm not watching anime to think or to feel a certain way. I just want to sit down, relax, and just enjoy something.
Anime just like video games and television is first and foremost entertainment. They're meant to pleasure you in your life.
