It probably sounds very brutal. But some must be sacrificed in the war against the corona. That's the way it is in all wars. This time it may well be me.
In Norway, one health worker died of a cerebral haemorrhage and three health workers were admitted with a blood clot after receiving the vaccine.
We and several European countries have now taken a break from vaccination with AstraZeneca on the basis of similar cases.
Let me say the obvious first. It is terribly sad that health workers have become seriously ill. Even though we have stopped clapping for them on our balconies, I think we all have deep respect for this group of people, who are some of the front fighters in the war against the corona. That is precisely why they received the vaccine so early.
And of course we will do everything we can to find out if there is a connection between the cases and the vaccine.
Because we actually do not know yet. Perhaps these are
"unfortunate individuals" , which Steinar Madsen in the Norwegian Medicines Agency opened up to. People get blood clots and die of cerebral hemorrhage every year. In Norway, there are between
7,000 and 10,000 cases of blood clots every year.
We will get the answer soon. Then the health authorities will also decide whether we should continue the vaccination.
But even if it turns out that it is the AstraZeneca vaccine that has caused blood clots or cerebral haemorrhage, I have no doubt: If I get the offer, I will take it anyway.
For, sorry to say it so bluntly: Someone must be sacrificed for the rest to be safe.
That's the way it is in all wars.
It is now one year since the government introduced the most intrusive measures since World War II.
And we're still at war. Against the corona. And our only weapon is vaccines. Vaccines are simply the way out of trenches. The road to peace.
But so far we have too few.
There will be some who get side effects from vaccines. Whether it's AstraZeneca or others. That's the way it is with all medicines.
Yesterday I had a headache and took an Ibux. Out of curiosity, I read through the package insert. About side effects. And it said that even a simple tablet for headaches can give you both stomach ulcers and depression. And, ironically, headaches.
But measured against the benefit, it is worth the risk. So it is with vaccines.
And with what we know right now, the risk of the vaccine is extremely low, compared to the benefits:
In Norway,
122,000 doses of Astra-Zeneca have been set. Of these, one cerebral haemorrhage and three cases of blood clots have been detected.
Across Europe, 5 million doses of AstraZeneca have been set. Of these,
30 cases of blood clots have been detected .
30 cases out of five million.
If you are afraid of that risk, you should consider stopping driving. Because
three times as many died on Norwegian roads last year.
And remember that there is still no proven link between blood clots and vaccines.
But some will use these cases anyway to spread vaccine resistance. It is the same as wishing for more of what we have had in the last year.
For it may be easy to forget in the fog of side effects, but we have sacrificed quite a lot - and quite a few - in the corona war already.
In Norway, 640 have died with covid-19. In the world, the number is 2.6 million.
But the victims can not only be measured in the number of deaths.
In Norway, more
than 200,000 are unemployed and laid off ,
loneliness is increasing ,
helplines are being called , people are struggling and
children and young people are more exposed to violence and abuse.
So if in doubt. If you only need one reason to get vaccinated, you can get this:
The number of serious cases of violence against children has
increased by 36 percent during the pandemic. Most cases concern children under the age of two. In several of the cases, the children have sustained permanent injuries from the injuries the adults have inflicted on them.
And in some of the cases, the children have died.
I like to risk a blood clot to ward it off.
Because I am much more afraid of the side effects of the pandemic, than of the side effects of the vaccine.
