Ever wondered why some faggots stereotypically have hankerchifs in their pockets? They use them to flag down other faggots who are looking for degenerate acts.
Basically color and style denotes what, and placement denotes "DOM" or "SUB" or alternatively "yes" or "no" for some things, all without being spoken. It can be worn on the head signifying "ADEPT AT" . That means if you see a man with a light blue bandana AND light blue with yellow spots on his right pocket, and a lavender one in his LEFT pocket, he's basically broadcasting "I am looking for an asian drag queen to suck off".
