Massive Twitter Hack

A number of high-profile Twitter accounts were simultaneously hacked on Wednesday by attackers who used the accounts — some with millions of followers — to spread a cryptocurrency scam.

Apple, Elon Musk and Joe Biden were among the accounts compromised in a broadly targeted hack that remained mysterious hours after taking place. Those accounts and many others posted a message promoting the address of a bitcoin wallet with the claim that the amount of any payments made to the address would be doubled and sent back — a known cryptocurrency scam technique.

In the hours following the initial scam posts, Kim Kardashian West, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Barack Obama, Wiz Khalifa, Warren Buffett, YouTuber MrBeast, Wendy’s, Uber, CashApp and Mike Bloomberg also posted the cryptocurrency scam.

Apparently thousands of verified accounts have been locked due to this.
At least that makes the running cleanup of all those pedo posts easier, right?

In related news, the admin panel shown in pics of the hack proves that shadowbans etc. are a thing on Twitter.
Contrary to Jack Dorsey claims when questioned about the issue (=perjury?).

Fun times...

It just seems strange that some skid spearfished a twitter employee to gain access and all they did was push a shitty crypto scam.

Here's some (censored) screenshots of the admin control panel that are actively being removed by twitter .

So these are the sort of 'anti-trend' tags from what I'm reading. Your tweets are still technically more accessible than a shadow ban, but are in more of a box. Basically it shadow bans you into a circle jerk.

The 1990s, scholars predicted that while the internet had the potential to lead people to be more informed, they noted with the way information and misinformation could flow through it, it would more likely turn into a nightmare of shouting matches between people entering any and all debate.
Since then, various terms such as "Splinternet" and "Cyber-balkans" have been coined when looking at studies of socialization on the internet, Twitter, especially with the creation of blue checkmarks and the way it tailors tweets to users, has been accused of being the absolute peak of this depiction of the internet time and time again.
