No. Witcher 2 and 3 are good.

Witcher 1 is a wonky mess only worth playing for the "but that sword's for monsters!" scene.

I don't know about story/writing in english version because back then CDPR was in it's infancy and translation quality could vary (first part was written entirely in polish because they never expected the game to reach big audience outside poland, cechia, slovakia and russia). But in my experience when you get past clunky gameplay mechanisms like fighting system the game is quite enjoyable, especially overall atmosphere which is in my opinion best of all three games.

Yeah but you can just watch the cutscenes on youtube for free. As I always say, story in a video game doesn't matter if the gameplay is shit.
