A Central Florida police department offered a unique solution for stopping the spread of coronavirus.
Tavares police asked people to bring in their methamphetamine so that the department can test it for coronavirus.
“With the rising health concerns associated with the coronavirus we are offering free testing of your drugs,” the department
said Thursday afternoon in a Facebook post. “Being that a large amount of narcotics come from outside the US, we want you safe. Bring it by our station and we will test your batch within minutes!”
This appeared to be a creative way to get drugs off the street; however, it’s unclear whether anyone took the bait.
The post did garner hundreds of shares, comments and likes.
As of Thursday, there were
60 confirmed cases of coronavirus within the U.S. On Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said
a person in Northern California was the first person in the country to have caught the virus without traveling abroad or being exposed to anyone known to have the infection.
The virus has infected more than 82,000 people in China, the outbreak’s epicenter, and has spread to 47 other countries.
