In a European country that shall remain nameless, in the year of our lord 2021, it is considered not only legal but also perfectly acceptable in terms of prevailing societal norms to pay as much as 70 euro (~85 dollars) in order to have a psychotherapy session (60' max.) with a licenced psychiatrist.

Clearly you and I have made the wrong decisions in life since I don't and never will make that kind of money in an hour.

Not necessarily man. I know doctors who work at public hospitals and they are getting rimmed by the pandemic while making a mere pittance.

Even those with a private practice seem to struggle to make ends meet except for those specializing in mental health. This includes not only psychiatrists, who at the end of the day are actual doctors, but all manner of psychologists and therapists as well.

I believe their rates are exorbitant for the services they offer. From my, likely ignorant, point of view the majority of them are little more than modern day priests at confession.

That is absolutely the case here as well. Therapists seem to have become more common than lawyers even.

I looked him up and saw a video of his on youtube where he deems the last few decades (ever since the start of the 80s) to have been just one big economic bubble or a wave that is now ready to come down. Got interested and watched some more vids. I positively cannot stand his kind; motivational speakers who rope in gullible losers with the promise of teaching them elite moneymaking skills (aka the mentality). And I'm always like, okay but how does this thing actually work? How do I make le big bucks? Do I meet you someplace? Are we going to do this together?

To be fair though this cynical prick does have a few valid points. I appreciate the fact that he tells me to my face that I'm fucked but this "coaching" grift is just too much.

Short term high impact therapy with psychatrists and psychologists are useful, anything else is pointless and just giving somebody money to do the same shit(confess) a catholic priest will do pretty much for free.
