A single F-15E Strike Eagle either had a malfunction or it might’ve received some enemy ground fire. Nevertheless, 1 crew member has already been rescued and the other is being searched for.
No helicopters have gone down. An A-10 Warthog received a bit of ground fire, but it just shrugged it off and flew back to base.
What’s utterly remarkable is that the US has flown THOUSANDS of sorties in Iran and over the most hostile territories and yet this is the FIRST time one of their planes has gone down in that god-forsaken land.
If you had asked me at the outset of this war how many planes the US would lose, I would have conservatively guessed that at LEAST 2 or 3 per week. The fact that they’ve only lost ONE aircraft inside Iran up to this point is a stunning accomplishment that highlights the supremacy of America’s military power in relation to that of all other nations.

It’s important to remember that in the first Gulf War in Iraq, during the air campaign of Desert Storm of about 40+ days, the US lost about 45 aircraft to enemy fire. Incredibly, in 35 days of air operations over Iran, the US has lost exactly ONE aircraft.
