I only made a return to the forums until 2018, and started using it when Sherrod DeHippo was still owner in 2010 before it split into Ohi in 2011 (what a dreaded year that was).

Ever since Ohi was created, Tumblr won the war against 4chan and made Moot install cloudflare, Moot deleting /r9k/ and /new/, the birth of the /pol/ era, the Occupy Wallstreet shit, Arab Spring shit, school ipad shit, more zoomers accessing the web more easily, FaceBook takes over, and so on. I can't think of any year after that abomination as other than cancer. That's why I call this current period "the cancer era". Ever since Sherrod left, ED has never been the same since. Especially not after Ryan Cleary of Lulzsec got arrested in the UK. 2011 onwards just sucked, especially as everything became political. I miss 2006-2010.

For me the old internet truly died around 2014-2015 with the rise of Gamergate. Partly for the gamergater retards themselves, but partly because of the circumstances that allowed those retards to actually have an agreeable point about things. OWS is definitely the starting point because despite the power of the internet, no one actually did jackshit about anything, and all the real lasting consequence of OWS was create the Tea Party counterrevolution that evolved into MAGA
