The problem is that most of the obscure drama is now too obscure for a lot of people to care about. Every kind of freak is a dime a dozen these days. And whereas the days that these people were treated as rare diamond in the roughs worthy of being laughed at for finding the internet and getting a dose of reality, the reality is that these people are now in groups of like minded individuals and it takes something extraordinary like threatening to kill your neighbor with their own doorbell ringer to move the needle.

Any article like that here is a solo effort which isn't likely to gain traction unless you, the article writer, are good enough to hook the audience. Add to that trying not to look butt hurt by said topic of discussion and not being boring or cringy and that is an uphill battle in the modern millisecond attention span audience.

tl;dr - too many people try to be something these days whereas people in the past were being their authentic selves without any sense of reality.
