Should she have thought the situation through? Sure. But women on the whole think that because society says, "one shouldn't/it's illegal," means "one won't/they will be punished." Which is why I suspect why women as a whole, have such a resistance to self defense and the 2A. I suspect that many women see a gun used in self defense or any self defense situation is a separate thing/incident. Yes it's retarded. And ironically, her being 22 well above the age of legal adulthood meant less protections because, she was of her own free will and was capable of making her own decisions. A real legal quandary. Even if the parents knew of her intent to go to evil-jew-pedo island, her parents wouldn't have the "right" to stop her, even if they wanted to and expressed a real fear. So I get it. In some obtuse aspect she did it to herself.
So what's the solution? Return to the rigid laws of the 1100's? Or even the social practices of the last mid century? That will never fly. Pandora is out of the box. Women won't return because it's "oppressive."

Women wont return? If civilization collapses due to uncontrolled migration and nuclear war between the west and Russia women wont have a choice. Women follow whoever is the strongest. I dont want to blame the victim dude, Jeffery epstein turned kids into Jerky and ate them, thats in the files. There is a long standing precedent of the FBI not complying with court mandates and has been in practice long before Trump. A famous example is when Holder was in open contempt of court but the judge refused to prosecute.
