  • i miss i think it was your dream thread on the last edf version. if not i at least associate you with a dream blog thread. either way the mail truck is an hr behind schedule so i am blogposting the weird dream i had here. you are free to ignore this if you wish to do so:
i was a tourist, walking around a town i had not been in by myself, and there was a big union station type building with a lot of foot traffic. the bottom floors were all modern design with car imagery on one side for some reason, and it was on the side of a hill so these were the lower parts, but as you went uphill the building grew older and there was a brick spire that was on fire in the very top and when i went to take a picture the fire stopped suddenly. nobody else around noticed it or was concerned but i was curious and so i went inside the older area. there was a theater and a ventriloquist dummy was in it untouched on top of all the burned area. it was possessed or something and was trying to energy vampire me like the drifter tribe in the doctor sleep movie. as i tried to flee it was like i was moving in slow motion as everybody on the way out was walking like a sped up film, and it seemed like the modern area was expanding accordingly to keep me in the building within the puppet's range

I remember starting a thread like that! I've fallen out of the habit of recording my own dreams but I probably should start again because Anatoliy seems to like to discuss dreams sometimes

It sounds like a lot of those structures are the same as what I tend to experience while dreaming, anchored in memory but used to invent something through a sort of collage, still immediately recognisable as an attempt to emulate a familiar location. Often for me at the moment I see a village or hamlet falling along the coastal path, and I recognise it as trying to be Porthgain but there's often this multi-storied restaurant built in the middle of the breakwater. Maybe that isn't the case and it isn't a place you remember. The dream you described sounds kind of like one of Lynch's ephemeral films

The gas station cigar ad in the electrical storm maybe I was thinking of

it wasn't a place i remember. in dream it felt foreign to me.
i don't dream a lot but whenever i do it's basically like this all heavy on the symbolism and cryptic imagery... would definitely explain my love for lynchian stuff

i got bombarded a few weeks back on the mail route with an art idea that "felt right" when made a certain way and i had to find out later why it did. my brain is a tangled ball of yarn
It's not the pinnacle of fine art, but drew struzan passed the other day

RIP Drew Sturzan - The posters have a number of beautiful qualities the dogmatism of the fine art label would never assume

And he seemed like an all-around great guy, I don't know
I ought to look into their career after the fact

they were basically just full on paintings made with love and care, n now today's posters can see stock images in them. then the wording had to be pulled from old letraset catalogs and stenciled on. same process with old vhs front covers back in the 80's in most cases too.
i dunno, i walk through the movie section of the store n look at covers that are just silhouettes and lazy sans serif lettering and it's joyless and doesn't catch the eye at all. more and more i miss this sort of overlooked "lower class" art meant for the masses. i get the same discontent looking at old shelving and dressers with scroll edging and elegant handles vs mass produced minimalist cube
how's the art going? i am hitting a textile crafts mental blockage atm

It's going pretty poorly I found someone who I've been talking to a lot and doing anything besides drawing most of the time
Somewhat of a dearth of ordinary ideas besides that like yourself - I'm going to take small steps towards getting back into it, wrote copying of other ideas until I can figure out how to do things again

i am glad you are spending time with a person and conversing.
i started paying into a crafts-maker co-op n now a considerable chunk of my time is spent navigating shipping fees and reading company by-laws and then watering crops so when it comes time to actually sew i have too many ideas to settle on one i like
the impatience of wanting all the ideas out instead of trying to set shipping prices on the off-chance someone from indonesia would buy something...
i know the blockage will pass when the paperwork heap is done, and that i did this to myself, but it is still "aaaaaaahh"
I think I've developed full-on sociopathy in the last 24 hours
I can feel the thirty-something polycule fat energy dripping from my brain, something's even wrong with this sentence
Unfortunately I can't kill myself without ramping up and there's no ramp
not sure if i've already shown you this before (probably) but if not this seems exactly the type of stuff you would like
my personal favorite avant-prog album, also has Bratko Bibic from Begnagrad. Quite emotional prog with a melancholic/sad vibe.

yeah the Osvaldas Balakauskas one is very minimal, complex, and strange. its like orchestra music in a dream. it kind of feels offputting how minimal yet complex it all is. i kinda like it. feels meandering in a good way.

this heat has stuff going on that doesn't always really work. the vocals are aggravating and I'm only a minute in. feels meandering in a bad way. i kinda like the 'unfinished demo' part as you put it, but it feels truly aimless. possibly another overrated prog band but i'll have to listen to more.

Crude incorporation of lowercase - In case people take extreme offense to the music, wouldn't be the most difficult thing in the world to do, they backload or frontload their songs with sparse tapeloops as a respite from the later or earlier intensity. As a concept I'm not sure I buy into lowercase because you can just turn the music off. The A-side of their EP Health and Efficiency did the same thing. They had no commercial incentive to pad out the record, I imagine it might just be where they left the space they felt the idea warranted if they could get around to figuring out what to do with it

I agree that the vocals can be off-putting, the Croydon Bullingdon brigade I guess isn't the sort of person you want to hear singing, it especially isn't someone you want to hear singing about their anxieties regarding a potential nuclear holocaust. I think one of the things I like about Nimal so far is you can very easily tell what headspace the musicians were in, isn't really necessary for them to verbalize anything to get it across even in a cryptic and roundabout way

I don't know too much about that but I've heard it said also. More often that they're a lolicon, which by the definition of many people might entail the same behaviour anyway. I hope it isn't true

i heard it was more straight up grooming children on discord, but i only read it once on rate your music so it may be wrong

Their Bandcamp got deleted so it's probably true. I hate that someone this inventive had to have such a sickness of the mind
