book thread

Just finished Dark Tower's Gunslinger over the weekend, and will now proceed with Kafka on The shore which is just a comfy read for me in terms of Murakami.

audiobooking jeff flake's conscience of a conservative. he liked reagan (gross) but i do agree with him the republican party abandoned its morals n principles in favor of being shrieking crybabies that jerk off over social issue outrage

At chapter 16 of kafka on the shore and it's SO good. I love the mood and the atmosphere of the book.

Also started audiobooking Exile, book 2 of Drizzt saga and it's SO GOOD. I genuinely do not get the complaints; this one is to me much better than the first book. I love the gnomes, and I love how much similar this gnome weapons master is to Zacknefar.

started kenneth harl's empire of the steppes for hot nomad summer
end of chapter 8:
"Rome, however, was a western power based in the mediterranean world and she could not impose her hegemony over the entire middle east in the face of an effective Iranian power, the Parthians. Any power with it's base outside the middle east faces the same challenge. Each succeeding western power has to come to terms with the regime in Iran."

Not completely true. Byzanthine emperor Heraclius did eventually break the spine of the Sassanid Empire, and it fell prey to Arabs as a result, but his own empire was also too drained to oppose this new threat.

he does talk abt some issues with the hephthalites making the shah n his heirs sweat in the next chapter
could be the author considers the borders close enough to not count in his statement, or he doesn't consider byzantine a western power

Rome may have had a few problems with the Parthians, but they also defeated them a number of times including the sacking and taking of their capital Ctesiphon.

However, the Greeks absolutely wrecked the Persians. Darius III and Sekander both became the beyotches of Alexander the Great.

n where'd you learn all that from since you don't read?

Ugh, at this point, I basically loathe everything about negroes: their shl*tty ‘music’, their inability to speak basic English, their foul-mouthed verbal diarrhea, their non-stop criminality, their low IQs, their wide noses and flared nostrils, the pubic hair on their heads, their inability to comprehend the meaning of the word “future”, and their extreme selfishness and lack of self-awareness.

cite the book source you got that quote from please

As you should well know by now, Quence doesn’t borrow from ANYONE without giving them attribution. The above information comes from Quence’s lived experience. And the truth it tells shouldn’t be anything but self-evident to all Americans who are not blind and deaf.
is this the book thread, or the lived experiences thread?
