BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Burial services for Sincere Pierce ended abruptly Saturday afternoon when an unknown gunman fired a single shot and struck the teenager's mother.

The gunfire came as guests were paying their last respects to the 18-year-old, one of two teens killed Nov. 13 by a Brevard County deputy in Cocoa. Funeral services for the other teen, 16-year-old Angelo Crooms, were held Nov. 21.

As the pastor finished his prayers at Riverview Memorial Gardens and Pierce's friends and loved ones placed flowers on his casket, a loud pop was heard.

The single gunshot was followed by stunned silence before Quasheda Pierce yelled that she had been hit. Mourners were at first slow to react before realizing what had occurred. The crowd of about 50 people panicked and left the cemetery as friends and family of Quasheda Pierce attended to her injury.

She was helped into a minivan before ambulances and EMTs arrived. The nature and severity of her injuries were not immediately known. Some at the scene said she had been shot in the leg.

Five to 10 minutes after the gunshot, Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived, carrying rifles in response to multiple 911 calls. Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the cemetery throughout the afternoon.

The initial investigation suggests the shot was an accidental discharge from a gun carried by a 16-year-old attending the service, according to WKMG News 6, citing the Brevard County Sheriff's Office. The sheriff's office said the bullet penetrated the 16-year-old's leg and then struck Quasheda Pierce, WKMG reported.

The sheriff's office has not responded to numerous requests left by Florida Today for information.

Some witnesses said the gunshot came from behind a nearby tree line where guests, including a mother holding a baby, were standing in the shade.

No further details were immediately available on who may have carried out the shooting or why.

The Nov. 13 shooting deaths of Pierce and Crooms had left their families and the public with unanswered questions about why Brevard County Sheriff's Office deputy Jafet Santiago-Miranda fired multiple shots into the car when the teens didn't pull over. Ivey had said the deputies thought the vehicle might have been stolen, but the teens' families and lawyer, Natalie Jackson, said they had permission to use the car and called it a case of mistaken identity.

The teens' deaths captured national interest, with well-known civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump working on behalf of the families in what he called a bid for justice.

ST LOUIS — A Missouri man is accused of beating to death his girlfriend’s blind 5-year-old son, who he was caring for while the boy’s mother gave birth to her third child last month.

Yoshuah Dallas, 24, of St. Louis, is charged with abuse or neglect of a child causing death and unlawful possession of a firearm, according to St. Louis County court records. He was booked Nov. 18 into the county jail.

Dallas was left in charge of Jamarion Javante Delancy and his 7-year-old sister on Nov. 17 when the children’s mother, Aunyae White, was hospitalized after going into labor. According to the St. Louis County Police Association, which established a GoFundMe page for the boy’s family, Dallas rushed Jamarion to St. Louis Children’s Hospital the next day.

“Despite the tremendous efforts of hospital staff, Jamarion was pronounced dead several hours later,” the fundraising page states. “An investigation revealed Jamarion sustained devastating blunt force trauma, to include a lacerated liver and intestine, a broken rib and (bruising) to his face and inside his mouth.

“These injuries caused significant internal bleeding and were the cause of Jamarion’s death.”
Jamarion had significant special needs, according to the association. Along with his blindness, he was developmentally disabled and required braces to walk, which hampered his mobility.

“Jamarion had no way to defend himself against the suspect’s attack,” association officials said.

A probable cause affidavit obtained by KSDK in St. Louis states that Dallas admitted he was the boy’s sole caretaker in the 24 hours before his death. He also admitted that a gun found in the family’s apartment was his.

Dallas, a convicted felon, is not allowed to possess a firearm, the news station reported.

“Jamarion’s death has left an impact on the members of the St. Louis County Police Department and we feel compelled to do more, especially at a time of year when families typically gather and celebrate the holidays,” police association officials said. “We feel for Aunyae at this incredibly difficult time, where she has to bring a baby home from the hospital while planning her son’s funeral and also trying to care for (her daughter), who was in the apartment when this horrible act occurred.”

1-year-old girl, 2 others slain at Louisiana swimming pool (msn.com)

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Two people walked into the swimming pool area of a Louisiana apartment complex on Memorial Day and opened fire on two young men, also killing a 1-year-old girl who was playing by the pool, police said.

The shootings happened after the two entered the gated area and confronted the victims, Baton Rouge police Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. told The Advocate.

After an argument, the suspects shot both of them — Reginald Thomas, 20; and Dewayne Dunn, 17 — and also struck the child, Ja’tyri Brown.

Police say Thomas and Dunn died at the scene. Ja’tyri died later at a hospital.

Details about the suspects or a possible motive were not immediately released, the newspaper reported.
