Denisa Stastna and her boyfriend said they were just filming the demonstrations when her head was pushed against a building by the high-pressure water coming from the cannon over the weekend. The Czech national had to have more than 15 stitches because of the fracture, local media reported. ‘We just stood there filming and walked away. They had no right to use the water cannon on us,’ Ms Stastna told Omroepbrabant.
Her boyfriend, Michael Piksel, insisted the couple were ‘never out for violence’ and were only filming the protests in Eindhoven. They said they are going to take action against the police for her injuries.
A spokesperson for Dutch prosecutor Janine Kramer said: ‘There was an emergency order and there were several announcements that you had to leave. ‘If you do not leave then you are in principle punishable.’ The demonstrations came after the Netherlands announced a tough curfew forcing people to stay inside their houses from 9pm until 4.30am every day. It was reported officers arrested 240 protesters after they looted stores, set fires and confronted police.
