That developer can plan all he wants, but that building location has been vacant for many years and his best chance was to do it with the blessing of the Trump organization.
Remember, the developer couldn’t meet the basic financial points as laid out in the agreement with the Trump organization. The Trump name is pure gold. It turns out the developer has a bit of a shady past.
Is that why the developer directly stated that trumps unpopularity was the reason they were no longer doing business with them, and that the building could go ahead just without the trump name attached

The Trump organization is very experienced when it comes to negotiating deals that involve their highly valued and respected name. There would have been specific points in the deal that needed to be realized for it to move forward, but it’s clear that the developer failed on those counts and the Trump organization did the right thing by pulling out.

When you're a business/have businesses as large as Trump does, bankruptcy is not a sign of failure, it's a tool used to protect assets and offset loss.
When I was in the army there was a barracks mate who talked about starting a business. Since I was getting out six months prior, I was interested in his endeavor.
And basically he said the object of the game was to lose money so you could write off the losses on taxes, then restructure the loan with Chapter 11's until you couldn't and then declare Chapter 13, go out of business and then start anew.

Personally, I think there is something wrong and unethical about that operating model, you should strive for success, but when failure is generously rewarded when playing the game at that level, why wouldn't anyone be lured to participate in that practice.

However, if you use and plan to use a business as an expendable "product" which is only to make money for you, the fact that it collapses is negated IF it puts money in your personal bank account.
