They deal with the same issue. One can prescribe drugs because one is a medical doctor, and one cannot because they are a trained behavioral therapist with no medical training. Do you not understand specialties and or focus of disciplines?

Psychology is about the study of behavior in general. Psychiatry is about mental illness specifically.

The psychologists that focus on mental illness specifically are clinical psychologists.

Psychologists also have the ability to prescribe meds in certain areas.

A medical doctor can prescribe ANY medication. That's what a medical license allows. However if they prescribe medications OUTSIDE of their field they are subject to malpractice and license removal. That's why prescription drug abuse is very high amongst doctors. No one questions them when they are writing scripts for oxy.
