I have never operated a vertical mill quite that large, but I have used a horizontal chuck lathe, commonly known as a Bullard, that was the same basic scale as that machine. Very impressive!

Interesting story about these fountains, they are everywhere in downtown Portland and Simon Benson, the guy my high skool was named after, installed them so that drunken loggers would have an option to not drink MOAR liquor when they were in town whoring on the weekend. Benson was a timber baron on par with the Weyerhausers in the day, and his polytechnic high school had one of the most comprehensive machine shops in a high school, anywhere... and a working foundry... hahaha now they have little commies painting trash canskinda poor design, the water that touches the lips falls back into the stream.
