Brown eyes are the more normal eye color. Blue eyes are a genetic aberration, this has been known since 2008.

I remember reading that study a couple of years ago. I still have doubts about the claim that they were able to isolate the mutation to a single common ancestor. After all, if the mutation can happen once, it certainly could happen in someone else.
