I don't believe in the level of international collaboration needed to hoax all of this virus all over the world.

I do believe we're living in a dystopia of mega corporations wielding ridiculous amounts of power, undermining and replacing western democracy and values of the past 100 or so years.

And as your OP proves, it is going to get a lot worse since the unwashed masses are successfully conditioned to subject themselves to awful situations and degrade themselves just so they can buy product then get excited for next product.

Yes, although the much touted values of the past are just rigid norms that more often than not made people more miserable than happy and which, like all things, are subject to change. Glorifying the beautiful past is a weak response to a harsh present reality.

Free speech is indeed under attack, though not so much by the obvious culprits (msm, social media platforms etc.) but rather by your average moron who has been conditioned in whatever online echo chamber he stumbled into first to parrot ridiculous theories and attack opposing viewpoints without even a semblance of an argument.

Again, I don't doubt free speech is on the chopping block. It is however included by default in the concept of democracy. If democracy is being undermined (agreed on that), then it goes without saying that free speech will not last long either.

However, a political system cannot be classified as a "value", western or otherwise. Values in a particular society are normative and pre-determined sets of ideas that control the actions of the individual to a high degree and may serve nefarious goals like keeping the population frightened or allowing the already powerful to maintain and perpetuate their chokehold on others under the guise of morality.

I don't know how to feel about consumerism. It obviously has bad effects, but I'm not really a fan of the alternative; socialism.

What I agree with is that the freedom of speech is only at stake when the effort to control it comes from the state level. But nobody cares about the policies of a Mongolian basket weaving forum. I don't think democracy is the key element for the perfect freedom of speech.
