Some books just make you worse.

I feel like a lot of books make you worse when you read them. For example my boss read clean code and makes one of the shittiest most unreadable (and unoptimized) code I've seen (have 3 lines of code extracting values from a json? LETS MAKE IT A FUNCTION!!!). Other examples are any PUA shit (let's bother/harass 100 women each day) or self improvement books (become a manipulative cunt) or business books (U can becume Elon Musk if you start the day with a cold shower). I don't know anyone who read any investment books (I think my boss may have read some of that shit too, but he still hasn't bragged about it) but I do believe most of them will be shit too, written and read by unexperienced wankers. Anyone had similar experience in life?

Self improvement books are alright (shit like how to win friends & influence people, or more niche business & management stuff), however they gotta be treated like reinforcing certain ideas instead of taking them at face value. If you don't have your social and emotional intelligence on point by like 28 years old, you're already fucked. Reading books is probably the best thing most young people can do in their lives, even fictional novels develop your creative thinking and make you an interesting person to talk to. For example, reading history books when I was younger gave me a much wider understanding of social and cultural + political context
