WARNING: This is a TL;DR post recapping the last year. Nobody is forcing you to read this shit. This is for people who do not know what's going on.
Where we have been:
When I first laid eyes on ED was the Zelda article back in 2012. I started shitposting in 2013 and immediately bumped heads with Zaiger by acting like a faggot. Much laughs were had.
I stopped posting around 2014 although I would stop in and respond to profile posts and PM people from time to time.
Early this year I came across the abomination that was the forums created by AEdiot (aka paperclip). These forums were not Xenforo, but phpBB. I also found out that AEdiot incorporated the site under an LLC.
Incorporating is a good move. I sent PMs in 2018 to Oddguy and LikeIcare suggesting the same thing so it would be better protected from lawsuits. But instead of doing a non-for-profit, It was incorporated entirely under his name, for reasons that would become apparent.
The forums looked and ran like shit. Same with the wiki, it was on and off always malfunctioning.
Under the impression that AEdiot did not know how to use Xenforo I made a dummy forum on a GoDaddy account as a proof of concept.
I would come to find out the reason AEdiot did not want to use Xenforo is because he wanted to exploit something in the phpBB code (which today is still unclear).
So I was promptly laughed at for using a GoDaddy site with no SSL certificate even though I never planned to run a separate forum.
Which of course, made me want to run a separate forum. I threw the forum on a preexisting hosting and domain service. I did not bother hiding the IP because it was already exposed.
Overtime AEdiot decided I can run the forums. I had asked him several times if he would just take it off my hands. When we did "merge" a few members quit. Understandable, but I was in for the long game.
We were supposed to move to his domain. But the site kept crashing, and he kept making excuses. Slowly it became apparent he can't run shit, except his mouth.
At this point AEdiot got sued. Which I warned was going to happen. You see, while the law generally protects websites from liability from what others publish, it doesn't extend to a the "owner" deciding to publish his own shit.
From there, news started to trickle that AEdiot was (1) planning to sell the site or (2) let the Plaintiffs have the site.
Also, leaked info confirmed that AEdiot was up to no good. Later, details emerged that he planned a conspiracy to post "protected health information and financial information to publish on ED" and to use ED for bots and DDoS attacks to target websites. Also he planned "to open bank accounts and lines of credit in a target's name in order to cause financial ruin to the victim in the name of ED". When our good friend declined this offer to go to jail, AEdiot threatened him with sending his darknet people after him;
At this point you are probably wondering how a couch surfing fat homeless Jew can run a criminal enterprise, let alone a sandwich deli, when he could not even run a fucking website on life support.
A move had to be made.
Unfortunately, AEdiot was lying (go figure) when he said there would be backups. What he meant to say was that his backups would go to his goons incase he disappeared. He also made comments suggesting he now owned all content on ED, a public wiki. Basically he was delusional.
At this point I started running a test server to see how easy it would be to restore the wiki based on 2018 XML dumps.
Despite knowing jackshit about using the wiki, I was able to piece together a database.
Where we are at:
The day unexpecting came while we were posted the Faggot of the Year/Decade threads on the forum.
AEdiot was a clear fan favorite.
While discussing this on discord, another long time member quested why AEdiot should be admin since he hasn't done anything productive.
A poll was taken, and with the majority of "leadership" AEdiot was de-oped from the forums.
This became an oh-shit moment. I quickly threw together a wiki within a day restoring what images I had.
It's far from optimal, but at least it is readable.
At this time a not-so anonymous faggot complained to our host provider that we were running a pro-nazi site. Here's one of the many complaints:
After this AEdiot came to gloat that (1) our IP was exposed and (2) that we were using "shared hosted services". Quickly exposing himself as the person behind the complaints.
What the fat fucking jew didn't realize that one of his earlier complaints also used the term "shared hosting" with the exact server ID (not just the IP), which is something only he and I would know. He attempted to write his new complaint under "David Mann" to throw us off. Overall I was disapointed that no darknet guys came to the door. Instead I had to deal with a whiny Bitch.
Wondering how this jew can run ED one day and the next claim it's an attack site that is Pro-Nazi? I'm wondering as well. And I expect that Mr. Mann's lawyers would be very interested in this confession.
What AEdiot didn't realize is that I took CSIII. A nutless monkey can configure cloudflare. I was planning on moving servers anyway, so all he did was speed up the process. I stayed up until 5 am moving files. I shut down the web server from external use for a few hours to make backups. This lead to nay-sayers claiming I was no better than AEdiot trying to run a "big-boy" website. I turned the site back on after I was done.
AEdiot now says that his site should be up in a few days with "a surprise". But why would anyone follow him now? The best thing he could do now is give us moar backups and quit.
Where we are going:
Nobody will own ED.
The site will be ran by the community. How exactly that will look like and be structured will be determined later.
Eventually we will have non-intrusive ads and donations to help pay for hosting and shit. Every nickel will be accounted for and made public.
I had to make some moves quickly on my own, this has lead to an impression that I an "running" ED.
What I wanted was ED out of the hands of AEdiot. I did not want to run the wiki let alone the forums, which is why I was hoping to pawn it off to someone trustworthy that wants the headache. Additionally, I have other shit in my life making running the site at the bottom of the priorities list.
Finally, as every EDiot knows, the owner of ED has always been Joseph Evers.
Currently the site is stable. About 1,000 (out of 14,000) articles are missing, plus a shitload of images.
The community is sick and tired of (1) updating their browsers with the current domain (2) their donations going up someone's nose or arm and (3) their work on the wiki and forums being deleted. Basically, being lied to.
I cannot, and will not, make promises that the site will be more stable than what AEdiot was doing.
What I can promise you is trust, true transparency, and that backups will be freely distributed to trusted longtime ED alumni.
