Well, it does serve them right. I had the game wiped out once through an update error. The process is a little more complicated than just changing time. But, that thread allowed me to pull more and more at the way that they programmed the game.
I'm sure people will use this to cheat on the tournaments first and foremost. That is a big red flag though. All of a sudden someone adds several thousand to their score in a few minutes or gets something stupid like 100,000+. Not very subtle and bound to have other people complain about it.
The infinite coin glitch requires knowledge of how to trigger the various events that happened during the week (now this is something that absolutely should be corrected if they knew it was possible).
I currently have the ability to hit them for 500 coins a pop by completing the tournament warm up event 4 days early. Then closing the app and reopening it and getting the same rewards each time. This is the easier and more straight forward glitch. There is one that is 1000 coins a pop, but I haven't gotten a foolproof process for how I've done it yet. I have until Thursday morning when the event actually starts before the 1 day counter comes in and prevents the rewards from being processed multiple times.
