The earliest ones I vividly remember were R-Type and Sabre Wulf, and some variations of Snake and Asteroids.
I played these very occasionally on my dad's ZX Spectrum as setting up and loading the games was a nuisance for someone aged in the single digits, and I promptly forgot about it for years after he got into PCs and I got access to DOS gaming from '92 and onwards.
