I think you can be saved from purgatory but it depends on the faith and prayers of saints and loved ones.
Oddly enough the concept of purgatory was one of the driving forces that led Luther to write his 39 thesis thingy. If im remembering correctly his grandfather was supposedly in purgatory n Luther was tasked with praying for him and buying indulgences to help intercede on his behalf.
