Sept. 28 (UPI) -- NATO is adapting to security threats in cyberspace despite vulnerabilities exploited in the COVID-19 pandemic, Deputy Secretary Mircea Geoana said on Monday. He noted that NATO will establish a Cyberspace Operations Center as a part of its command structure, adding that a military cyber attack on a country qualifies as a cause for all NATO nations to come to its aid. "We agreed that a cyberattack could trigger Article 5 of our founding treaty, where an attack against one ally is treated as an attack against all," Geoana told a virtual conference of CYBERSEC, an annual public policy conference sponsored by the Kosciusko Institute of Krakow, Poland. A pair of Portuguese lesbian lovers inspired by the Showtime serial killer TV series “Dexter” allegedly killed and hacked up a man, chopping off his fingers to access his bank account and steal a more than $77,000 inheritance. Maria Malveiro, 19, and her girlfriend Mariana Fonseca, 23, a nurse, are accused of murdering Diogo Goncalves, a 21-year-old hotel worker, in Portugal earlier this year. The grisly details about Goncalves’ killing emerged as prosecutors get ready to put Malveiro and Fonseca on trial. Investigators say Goncalves was strangled on March 18 and the two women allegedly cut off his fingers to gain access to his bank account from his cellphone, using his prints to swipe the cash, the Sun reported, citing Portuguese media. Police in Vietnam have confiscated an estimated 345,000 used condoms which had been cleaned and resold as new, state media reported. Footage broadcast by state-owned Vietnam Television (VTV) this week showed dozens of large bags containing the used contraceptives scattered across the floor of a warehouse in the southern province of Binh Duong. Police said the bags weighed more than 360 kilograms (794 lbs), equivalent to 345,000 condoms, according to VTV. The owner of the warehouse said they had received a "monthly input of used condoms from an unknown person," state newspaper Tuoi Tre reported. A woman detained during the bust told police that the used prophylactics were first boiled in water then dried and reshaped on a wooden phallus before being repackaged and resold.
