Year 4 was a fucking nightmare. Alright, first something about colony wealth I didn't explain before. It influences the number and quality of raiders and others Randy can throw at the Ediots, but it also influences the colonist's mood. The colonies usually start with around 15K wealth, which gives the colonist's "very low expectations" (+24) bonus to mood, so they handle hardships easier. When the colony reaches 30 or 40K, this bonus is reduced to "low expectations" (+18 mood). At the start of the year 4 all the walls and expansions and bells and whistles have brought the colony to 80K, moderate expectations (+12). The first, failed Ediot colony was still at 55K in year 6 when it was killed off, so I really went off the brakes. In case of leaders, the expectations are 2 levels above the common folk, so commissar Heidi expected a lot and had no mood bonuses (sky high expectations).
So, the more the Ediots have, the more they expect, and the more they are pampered, the less they are happy. And the less they are happy, the easier they mentally break.
This affected Lurk more than others. The revival wasn't flawless, so he ended up with dementia, often going Biden around the colony and outside of the walls, which especially exposed him to dangers

View attachment 50195
View attachment 50196

The pyromaniac was chill for 2 whole years, became the best surgeon and farmer when Lurk went down, a really valuable member of society, and then he started lighting the barracks on fire.

View attachment 50197

It was managable with the beanbag shells, but Commissar Heidi knew that sooner or later he'll light up either the ordinance or the flammables used for its production. How to remove this threat to the community, especially since he is loved by many?

View attachment 50198

The toxic waste was walled off in a freezer. A big mistake was not building double walls, one of the raids later broke in and some of it leaked out, but not enough to cause serious damage. Still needs a clean up, but the Ediots are short on staff right now.

View attachment 50199

Mechanoids employed a fog machine that reduces accuracy by 50%. Could have been worse, a sun blocker that would make everything green on the map die. An Ediot expedition can be sent to try and shut it down, but the Commissar has no idea what is there, a tesseron? No thanks, 50% accuracy is a glass half full, and fine with him.

View attachment 50200

A biggest mechanoid raid the Ediots have seen so far landed in transport pods (23 shotgunners, I think), and it was time to test the walls and the effects of the fog. The defences are nothing special, just a corridor with barbed wire to slow them down and direct them straight in front of the Ediot's barrels

View attachment 50201

Completely wiped out. Cheap and boring strategy, but better that than facing 23 shotgunners out in the open and burrying everyone at start of year 4. Doesn't matter. The Ediots know there will be threats from which they can't hide behind the walls, and they will take the wins they can, and take them dirty if necessary.

View attachment 50202

Commissar Heidi didn't plan for this, but he won't shed any tears over it. But it was a blow to the Ediot's morale. He was burried next to Demonic.

View attachment 50203

His death marked the beggining of the hard times. First came a divorce which left minty shaken

View attachment 50206

Then came the ceremonies that should have pleased the masses, but seemed mundane and boring to now pampered and spoiled Ediots.

View attachment 50207

View attachment 50209

A part of the blame lied with the newly appointed firekeeper, BayaRae, whose lacking attempts at charisma and showmanship fell flat in front of the jaded Ediot audience.

The mental breaks became more and more frequent, caused by either divorce, or by the beloved silly little pyromaniac imp of the colony being killed by a stray bullet, by this or that reason. People wandered around the colony dazed and confused, would go on chemical binges or violent antisocial sprees. This led to a chain reaction and a downward spiral. The fields are not being harvested if the farmers are busy getting high all night, which means that the food isn't being made, which means people go hungry, which means the people go angrym and turn against each other. The threes grow unchecked and obstruct the windmills, leading to power failures, frozen food spoilage and production grinding to a halt.

During one of the mental breaks, the esteemed firekeeper went berserk and attacked an arctic fox. Commissar Heidi decided that it would be best not to intervene, let the man have his fun and blow off some steam. However, to his disbelief, for a neanderthal, BayaRae turned out to be really incompetent when to came to hand-to-hand combat.

View attachment 50210

He too, was burried next to Demonic.

View attachment 50211

The death of the firekeeper, and Comissar's refusal to appoint a new one out of the need for every capable hand to stop the colony from further sinking, was another thing that weighed on every Ediot's mind.

The breaks continued

and again

and again

View attachment 50214

Despite his sanguine personality, not even the Commissar was completely immune

View attachment 50215

Some people went unhinged to the point of desecrating the remains of the dead, and ploping them on the dining room table

View attachment 50216
View attachment 50217

And some gave up entirely

View attachment 50218

She was brought back to the colony at gunpoint, and reminded that an Ediot is an Ediot in all times, not just the good ones.

The commissar observed in desperation.

View attachment 50220

Normally he'd at least arrange for an execution and lift everyone's spirits, but the raids dried up. All that he could do now, was try to keep the colony running at the bare survival level, and hope that the time will bring respite , and that the people will eventually let go of the grief.

Lurk had his last breakdown, getting hooked on the go juice, which would have been OK if the production could satisfy it, but in current situation, all he was, was a threat to the survival of the colony hussars. He was placed in a deathrest coma so he can sleep through going cold turkey, and recovers from the dementia.

View attachment 50221

Slowly and painfully the recovery process started. The genetic research has been completed, and the first piece of vital equipment has been built:

the chicken grinder

View attachment 50222

While Commisar Heidi was busy trying to manage the mental health of his people, the chicken population growth has been left unchecked, and they multiplied

View attachment 50223

and multiplied

View attachment 50224

so much that a local muffalo population developed a replacement theory that the government worked hard to suppress (350 chickens). Fortunately, the merchants finally showed up, and the chicken legions were offloaded to them, reducing the numbers to a managable 16.

Commissar Heidi and the new waster recruit, DIAF, raided an impid farming site, more out of need for taking prisoners (and her ideological need to raid) than out of need for food, which was a nice bonus to a still struggling colony. Their lives and potatoes belonged to the Ediots now
View attachment 50225

And finally Commissar Heidi could arrange for an execution, lifting the spirits of the Ediots and showing them that the authorities are doing their best to protect them from the devious outsiders.

View attachment 50226

A child was born into the colony, and the name "Demonic" was ready to be bestowed upon it... but nature had other plans. It was not a masculine child.

View attachment 50227

@Demonic87 , do you still accept this child as your avatar, do decide the direction of its development, so it may become a great meatshield?
Yes!

My bad. Sorry.

No space voyage for us.

My bad. Sorry.
It's OK, it was the fog. That damn, damn fog.

Anyway all of this went down from the middle of year four to the middle of the 5th year (Lurk went to deathrest around Decembary 6-7).
That was when the Yttakin raid happened
yttakinraidend.jpg

The survivor was at first to be executed, but the colony was still struggling, and so he was recruited. The Ediots have no love for the furries, but the fields need
harvesting. You can choose a name if you wish.

After that there was a small mechanoid raid

afteryttsmechs.jpg

and then a waster raid, with not a single waster in it

wasterraid.jpg

Genies, every single one of them, and each one a sniper, first time I ever saw anything like it. One dead, others released, except one that was recruited. Their weapons were confiscated and given to the Ediots. This was a wake up call for the Commissar: the Ediots, having conquered the animal kingdom (with maybe a certain megafauna being exception) and tribal factions, have relaxed, and started falling behind in the arms race with more advanced groups. The captured M24s replaced the Enfields, and with a lot of unspent .303 ammo, a Bren machinegun was made and assigned to Tim, to be exchanged for something else later.

notasinglewaster.jpg

Commissar Heidi and DIAF got married, and soon she gave a birth, and now little Sugarbombs has a halfbrother, another half-waster.

heididieinafiremarry.jpg

sugsbro.jpg

A transport pod fell and the survivor, a dirtmole, was also recruited.

yoshidirtmole.jpg

The colony now has a population of 13, and finally enough hands to respond to growing production demands. The furry, genie, dirtmole and the newborn have no names, so you can choose now.

As for Lurk, while in deathrest, he was weened off his go juice addiction, and his scarless sanguophage gene cured his dementia. However, the psychosis was left uncured, and kept progressing. The Ediots had no idea what will happen when it reaches its final stage. It should kill a normal person, but what about the sanguophages? They are tough, but some things can permakill them, and if this psychosis ccauses brain death, it's goodbye again, with maybe even less chance of ever getting another resurrector serum.

Lurknearlythere.jpg

What was needed was a hibernation biochip. Implanting it in the brain should fix any damage.

biochip.jpg

The Ediots finally went from research to the production phase of the genetics.

humanoidgenome.jpg

And after a whole year in coma, Lurk is finally back, and improved

itworked.jpg

Now, Lurk has a legendary tier biochip. Let me explain the cost and the "science": awful tier requires one corpse to make a genoframe for a biochip (idealy chickens, because of their monstrous rate of reproduction), poor requires two awful ones to be combined, and so on. Meaning that I have to feed 64 chickens to the grinder to produce one legendary biochip.

genoframetiers.jpg

And all the Ediots, 13 of 'em, will get at least 3 chips, hibernation one, which will raise the colony productivity through the roof, and these:

Muffalo muscles will increase the weight the Ediots can carry by 35kg, meaning a balistic vest on top of the flak armor, plus another weapon and the ammo for it.

muffalomuscles.jpg

Muffalos skin, adding additional defense (not sure how much yet).

muffaloskin.jpg

There are also some more... exotic implants. Any volunteers?

milked.jpg

egged.jpg

That concludes our presentation on Ediot's scientific progress. Now back to bussiness.

The Ediots received a message from a mystical fleshcrafter

shaman.jpg

and after 4 years, Commissar Heidi finally has both arms again.

And the Ediots reached the beginning of the year 6.

Nothing original, @Barrabas did this a couple of years ago with dwarf fortress, now I wanna do it with dwarf fortress lite, rimworld.

View attachment 48749

I wanna start a new run, with ediots as colonists. Depending on the number of people that sign up, it will be either the crashlanded start, or if I get 5 volunteers, it will be the more chalenging lost tribe.

You will be given some control over the setup, you can choose which storyteller you want, hard & predictable or hard & unpredictable:

You can choose your own race:

And your own ideoligion. Structure decides how clothes and art the colony produces look:

Ok

I would like to be a genie.

@Illuminati actually can't, she's female, didn't notice until I saw her mood was low because Tim rejected her advances.

And one more thing about biochips, I've crafted an awful quality muffalo muscles implant just so you can see the difference. I implanted it on a prisoner
who's been the Ediot's guest since the first year (she got a .303 to her spine and was tied to bed). As you can see, it barely adds anything, but it did fix her spine, and she can finally leave.
awfulmuffmuscles.jpg

The Ediots had an arctic fox manhunter pack followed by a waster raiding party show up, and wiped them out.

wasterswiped.jpg

all but one

marinearmor.jpg

when her buddies went down she proceded to gtfo through the side entrance while being poured upon from every Ediot's barrel without even slowing down. That's when the Ediots realized she's wearing a marine armor, a 2nd tier power armor. "Let her go" said Commissar Heidi, "but do you see now how right I was when I told you we are lagging behind in the arms race?"
The waster was allowed to leave, but she didn't get far

psychocrash.jpg

While the armor did protect her neck to toes, she only had a simple steel helmet, and while the shotgun pellets didn't penetrate it, the concussive force did, damaging her brain, which she felt to the fullest when the cheap drug in her system wore off. She was thrown into prison, and stripped of her armor, which Balls claimed for himself.

The colony wealth kept growing, and reached 150K, when the Ediots received an offer

ARCHONEXUS.jpg

Another toxic fallout

tfallout.jpg

This time however, the Ediots had a full pantry, and could wait it out.

falloutfoodsupply.jpg

but there was no animal feed, so a caravan with Balls and all the animals was organized, and was sent out of the Nobody Cares, to trade with other settlements and forage in non-polluted areas.

animalcaravan.jpg

After the caravan had departed, the Ediots faced a tribal raid after rejecting a payment demand

rejectedademand.jpg

and an epidemic

malaria.jpg

and then some mechanoids

mostlydone.jpg

HE rounds are damn good, if you like repearing your walls all the time

wallsfucked.jpg

While uranium melee weapons really need a replacement

done.jpg

The caravan was ambushed by... a single genie. Balls beanbagged him and took his lunch

ambush.jpg

By this time the toxic fallout settled down, and the caravan headed back. The animals managed to filter out most of the crap from their system on the way, unlike the wildlife that stayed back

wildlifetox.jpg

The empire asked for a favor

wardenquest.jpg

and it was accepted, the reward was simply too good to pass up

monosword.jpg

Tim called Lurk the V word

socialfight.jpg

and the muffalo mamaries were implanted onto a prisoner

cow.jpg

another day, another raid

scytherraid.jpg

they were all cut down, but one

fuckinghell.jpg

Sugar was outside of the walls and that last remaining cunt ran her down. Tjhe Ediots didn't burry her, she took Lurk's old place in the freezer, but something better needs to be built to ensure that power outages cause minimum damage.
waitingforthewakeupcall.jpg

The scyter survived, along with another one, and was brought into the fort. Because ordinary melee weapons and beanbags can't damage them, so they can be used for practice. And because I am relly bitter and pissed.

scyterdummies.jpg

Based on year four, you can guess what happened next

colonywide.jpg

There are no riots in Rimworld, but this came close, considering that all these happened nearly simultaneously. There were little grievances that Commissar Heidi neglected to resolve because they weren't really a big deal. But little by little, the pile of discontent grew, and Sugarbomb's death was the molotov that landed on its top.

listofgrievances.jpg

Anarchy reigned, and the commissar was tempted to abandon the colony and take the Ediots somewhere where they can start anew, and live simpler and more fulfilling lives, away from all this marble and corruption. But mama Heidi didn't raise no quitters.

themess.jpg

"There must be something I can give them to ease these trying times for them. Think, Heidi, think!"
But all the narcotics were sold, and go juice was precious and needed
and then it hit him

THE FOOD

Ediot's usual diet are simple meals either common or vegeterian

simplemeal.jpg

But a skilled colony chef can prepare lavish feasts

lavishmeal.jpg

and Heidi had 3 at his disposal: Tim, Lurk, and himself. If he can carefully balance the stick of beanbag shells and the carrot of lavish meals, maybe order can be restored, and unlike year 4, when starvation was one of the huge problems, the pantry was full this time

pantryisfull.jpg

and it seemed as though it was working

stopgap.jpg

Commissar Heidi could finally take a deep breath and relax

...or could he?

ohhahahaha.jpg

drone.jpg

wellofcourse.jpg

The commissar led a raid on a Yttakin mining site to take those that were afflicted the worst away from the drone, to satisfy ideological demands, and to secure the prisoners.

raiddone.jpg

But the universe wasn't done with him and the Ediots

just...fuckyou.jpg

itgoeson....jpg

Nothing like some good ol' fashion justice to raise the spirits

bland.jpg

Eeeeeehhh.... but eventually it all went back to normal, and Balls, the worst afflicted, was sent out on a month long caravan, and that plus the stick and carrot were probably the most contributing factor. All in all, the troubles of year 6 were more volatile than that of year 4, but lasted much shorter, and the Ediots reached the start of the year 7.
