CHICAGO — A man who was apparently ambushed after being released from the Cook County Jail in Chicago suffered as many as 64 bullet wounds to his head and other parts of his body, police said.

The shooting Saturday night killed Londre Sylvester, 31, a police report said. He was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Sylvester had just been released after being fitted for electronic monitoring and was walking to a waiting vehicle when several suspects “exited two separate vehicles and all began to shoot in Sylvester’s direction, striking him numerous times,” the police report said.

Following Saturday night’s shooting, the suspects re-entered their vehicles and fled the scene, police said.

A 60-year-old woman who was with Sylvester was shot in one of her knees and was hospitalized in good condition, police said. A second woman, who is in her 30s, suffered a graze wound to her mouth, police said.

Police search for killer of 6-year-old girl remembered for her energy and smile - The Washington Post

Nyiah was fatally shot Friday night while walking to her nearby home with her mother, father and older sister in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast Washington.

Police said the shots came from a gray, four-door sedan passing the commercial corner of Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X avenues, striking Nyiah, her mother and four others, among the latest victims in a city struggling to curtail gun violence.

Family members said the 27-year-old mother, a store clerk, remained hospitalized Saturday. The others who were wounded, all adults, were recovering from injuries police described as not life-threatening.

Nyiah, an outgoing little girl with an infectious smile, who loved to learn and to dance and was eager to begin first grade at Ingenuity Prep Public Charter School this fall, was the youngest victim of a fatal shooting in D.C. this year.

“She put a smile on everybody’s face,” said Courtney, Nyiah’s 52-year-old maternal grandmother.

On Saturday, D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) and Police Chief Robert J. Contee III joined other city officials and the heads of the local offices of the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to address the latest killing in the nation’s capital. Federal authorities promised to help with the case and added money to a reward, pushing the total to $60,000.

This retarded oooker was doing home invasion robberies at 15, now 8 years later it's paralyzed from the waist down and shooting at good Samaritans.

Being charged this evening with aggravated robbery are:
  • Shannon Birdsong, 18, of Ocoee Trail;
  • Lorenzo Vaughn, 20, of Packard Drive;
  • Michael Big Kells, 17, of Lauren Evelyn Way; and
  • DeAngelo Spears, 15, of Lauren Evelyn Way.
Birdsong, Vaughn and Big Kells are alleged to have knocked on the door of a home in the 5100 block of Ryan Allen Circle (Spears remained outside) at 10 a.m. When a 10-year-old boy answered the knock, the three robbers, two of whom were masked, forced their way in. One of them pulled a pistol on the child, put a hand over his mouth and forced him into a closet. At the time, the boy’s mother and his four younger siblings were upstairs. The bathtub was running and his mother did not hear the commotion. The suspects, who later admitted to detectives that they hit the wrong house, took an iPod and tried to take a television before quickly fleeing. When the 10-year-old heard them leave, he left the closet and told his mother what had happened.

Warrants charging three counts of attempted criminal homicide, two counts of aggravated assault and felon in possession of a handgun have been issued against Deangelo Spears, 23, who Monday evening indiscriminately, and for reasons still unknown, fired shots toward innocent bystanders, striking a man in the leg, and two MNPD officers, who were not struck, in the 100 block of Neelys Bend Road.

Spears, who is paralyzed from the waist down, was seen at 6:15 p.m. sitting in the roadway at Neelys Bend Road near Argyle Avenue calling out for help. When a man attempted to check on him, Spears fired toward him. A bullet apparently ricocheted off the pavement and struck the man in the knee. He refused treatment. Spears then fired at a man across the street who was walking on the sidewalk, striking him in the leg. A third man was pulling into the nearby Walgreens when a bullet entered his rolled down passenger window and struck the driver’s side window, shattering it. A fourth man then attempted to intervene but took cover after Spears fired at him.

Officers Brandon Lopez and Thomas Denenea quickly responded to the volatile scene and located the victim who had been shot in the leg. Spears was lying in a yard across the street. As Officer Denenea got out of his marked patrol car, with lights and sirens activated, Spears fired multiple shots toward him, striking Denenea’s police vehicle. Officers did not return fire. They gave Spears repeated commands to drop his weapon. Spears then used his arms to pull himself around the corner of a residence where he was taken into custody. A handgun and several cartridge casings were located in the yard from where Spears had been shooting. Additional casings were located on Neelys Bend Road near Argyle Avenue. The recovered gun was out of ammunition. The investigation continues into how Spears came to be in the area and why he started shooting.

Spears was transported to General Hospital for treatment of pre-existing medical issues. Detectives attempted to interview him but he was uncooperative. Spears will be arrested upon his discharge.

The man shot in the leg was transported to Skyline Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
