According to the article, police will be dispatched alongside them if there is imminent threat of violence. My own assumption is that this will last a few weeks to months before being revised where the social worker is sent out with some kind of police protection similar to how they already work with ambulances.
As weird as this may seem, it should be remembered politicians basically defunded mental health programs and stuck police with the bill. That said I almost guarantee this is gonna end in disaster because it feels like they’re rushing it out to appeas certain crowds without actually considering that domestic calls tend to be the ones where the most “surprises” tend to happen

Categorically incorrect. But it's a common mistake and belief. The mental institutions were defunded BECAUSE after the liberals ruled that it was a right to be homeless or non-conventional, and you couldn't force someone to commit themselves without commixing a crime, and local jurisdictions decriminalizing vagrancy, mental services were completely left up to the patient. Do you think a mental patient will go to someone and take drugs to make them better or take the ones that they think make them better and are fun?
There is no reason to fund something if it isn't going to be used. The Psych institutions just didn't have the imagination of the Bureau of Indian affairs.
Ambulances often go to areas after fights and treat without police escort, if they feel the scene unsafe, they then call in police backup.

Someone did get arrested for discharging a firearm in that mess, and there are multiple injured in the hospital, but the Capitol grounds are kitty corner from that spot, and it IS like a big stupid-size playground. It isn't on the local paper's website either(((lol))).
