On Aug. 14, Joseph and Jossline Roland went to the Southlands Mall to buy a 2017 Toyota Rav4 they had seen on the Letgo app by a man named James Worthy. Upon arrival, the couple met 18-year-old Kyree Brown, who told them he had accidentally brought the wrong vehicle title.

The car had been stolen a few days earlier, according to police, and Brown allegedly convinced the couple to follow him to his apartment, according to an arrest affidavit. That's when he allegedly robbed the couple at gunpoint and fired when their vehicle began to move forward.

Brown allegedly admitted to shooting Joseph, but claimed he shot Jossline by accident.
After the shooting, Brown admitted to stealing cash from the couple and fleeing the area. The couple were found unresponsive in their vehicle and transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead five minutes apart from each other.

Following the shooting, Brown listed the vehicle for sale again, using the name Jessica Harlan. He was arrested on Aug. 27.

The couple leave behind five children, and since their deaths, their family has started a GoFundMe page.

"They leave behind five sweet children," the GoFundMe organizer, Brittany Southerland, writes. "Anyone who knew Joe and Jossline would remember they were always the first to help. They were the best people you could know and their door was always open to friends and family."

Brown has been charged with two counts of first degree murder.

CHICAGO - Chicago police are asking for help locating a vehicle wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that killed an 8-year-old girl and wounded two others Monday in Canaryville on the South Side.

Shortly before 6 p.m., the child was among four people who were in a Subaru SUV that was stopped at a red light at 47th and Union.

A Dodge Charger was behind the SUV, and when the stoplight turned green, someone in the Charger opened fire, striking the child, as well as a 31-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman who were also in the SUV, police said.

The Charger then made a U-turn and drove off south on Union.

Dajore Wilson, 8, was pronounced dead less than an hour later, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

17-year-old is third teen arrested in death of 11-year-old Anisa Scott

A third person has been arrested in the slaying of 11-year-old Anisa Scott, who died after being shot in the head Aug. 11 during a car-to-car shooting on East Washington Avenue, Madison police announced Thursday.
Jerry L. Ward, 17, of Madison, had a handgun when he was arrested Wednesday afternoon, acting Police Chief Vic Wahl said during a press conference.

He said Ward is tentatively charged with first-degree and attempted first-degree homicide as a party to a crime, and was booked into the Dane County Jail on a burglary charge related to the looting and other destruction that took place in Downtown Madison on the first night of protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis police custody.

Ward is the third teen arrested in Anisa’s killing. Perion R. Carreon, 19, and Andre P. Brown, 16, both of Madison, were charged with homicide Tuesday. All three were together in a vehicle from which the shots were fired that hit the Sun Prairie middle school student, Wahl said.

Anisa was taken off of life support two days after the shooting. The criminal complaint in Carreon and Brown’s case says the driver of the other car, Christopher Carthans, was the intended target. Anisa, the daughter of Carthans’ girlfriend, was in the front seat of Carthans’ Chevy Tahoe when the shooting occurred.

TROY — Elvis Ramos grew up in the Bronx. The 47-year-old has held grown men in his arms as they took their last breaths. But when he saw Ayshawn Davis, 11, with a gunshot wound to his head Sunday night, he burst into tears.

"To see an 11-year-old kid, I can never forget that image," said Ramos, who lives two houses down from where Davis was shot on Old Sixth Avenue.

Ayshawn was shot and killed at 2266 Old Sixth Ave. when someone sprayed bullets from a moving car, said police, who went to the scene around 11:40 p.m.
The boy was with a group of people when shots flew from a car that was last seen headed north, police said.
"To say that this death is tragic is an understatement," Assistant Police Chief Dan DeWolf said in a statement released by the police department. "We are all heartbroken that this young man’s life was taken so young and so senselessly and so violently. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s family and friends."

RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- The disappearance of a Raleigh man from the Cameron Village area is now being investigated as a homicide, the police department announced on Wednesday.

No charges have been filed in the case, but officers said they suspect foul play is involved in Andy Banks' disappearance.

Banks has not been seen or heard from since Saturday when he told friends he was going to the Cameron Village area to meet a man who was interested in buying his SUV.

"Regardless of what state Andy is in, everybody just wants there to be an end to this part of it, to know where he is," friend Cliff Cash said Wednesday. "That really happened pretty fast, so I think that's pretty solid police work and I know the family feels that way."

Banks' family did not comment on the latest developments.

Banks' 2011 Range Rover, which he was trying to sell, was found Monday afternoon in Danville, Virginia. On Tuesday, Justin Fernando Merritt, 34, was arrested and accused of stealing Banks' vehicle.

Merritt was extradited to Raleigh on Wednesday morning. Arrest warrants out of Wake County released on Monday said Merritt used a gun to threaten Banks and steal his SUV.
Banks has still not been located.

A search warrant released by the Danville Police Department shows the case has been considered a homicide investigation since Monday.

It states that Banks' phone was found on the side of a road in North Carolina after he was reported to have met with Merritt.

The warrant shows police searched Merritt's home and found a handgun, three phones, boxes of ammunition and two spent shell casings.

By Wednesday morning, Merritt had been moved to Wake County Detention Center and appeared before a judge later in the afternoon. He is being held on a $2 million secured bond.

In court Wednesday, Merritt heard the charges he's facing: Larceny of a motor vehicle, which carries up to 39 months. Robbery with a dangerous weapon, which carries up to 204 months. He was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, which carries up to 47 months.

"As a decent human being the right thing to do would be for him to help them," Cash said. "But I don't know if he's a person who's particularly worried about doing the right thing."

Merritt has only been charged in connection to stealing Banks' SUV. He has not even been named as a suspect in the homicide.

CLEVELAND — Two people have been arrested in connection with the shooting of a 10-year-old boy in Cleveland on Tuesday, according to police.

The suspects are 18 and 20 years old. Their names and charges have not been announced.

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in the 3200 block of East 18th Street in the city’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood.

Police said that a preliminary investigation indicates that a group of people near the corner of East 117th Street and Luke Avenue were filming a music video when shots were exchanged between the group and those in a nearby vehicle.

Authorities said the 10-year-old is believed to have been struck by bullets from that incident.

His mother identified the boy as Javoun Tell, a fifth grader.

"Almost every organ except for his heart was punctured," said Chaquitta Luster, Tell's mother.
