That should cut down on the noise and heat generated by consoles. But I wonder: are SSDs as reliable as mechanical drives? And how large can an SSD be?
A TB I think, it's kinda neat. They are using an integrated pcie4 nvme drive with dedicated lanes, should be fast as all get out

The largest SSD is Samsung's at 30.72 Terabytes, larger than a 16 TB hdd.

SSDs do not have mechanical parts and are more reliable. But they do get worn out.

The PS5 ssd is more than double the speed of Series X. 5.5GB/s vs 2.4. Not sure how that will transfer to load times. We will see.

thats not a real world product though, nobody is going to pay $15-20k for an ssd for a personal system

the 8TB Gigabyte Aorus is about the absolute limit of what a person would use in a "desktop" rig

Oh for sure, I was answering Quence's general question how big they could get.

Isn't there an issue with SSDs where they can be written to a finite number of times and that number makes them less likely to last as long as mechanical drives?

BTW, does an SSD get hot and does it require a cooling apparatus like a fan?

They do get warm, but not enough to require cooling unless they are fucked.

They last about 10 years. The metric you need to look at is TBW (terabytes written overtime).

Yeah but you're a....
