Thoughts on the DOOM series

I like Doom, but I feel like the current reboots have attracted a lot of annoying zoomers and people who would've never otherwise played a "boomer shooter". Other than that I'm fine with Doom 2016 and Eternal.

Still waiting for a proper Quake sequel that isn't fucking Strogg, but until the next time the universe rips itself apart and the big bang starts again I guess.

Doom 2016 is also fun and you have to be a grumpy boomer to deny it. Didn't play doom eternal yet
Just finished it and it was a blast. But every single time I was getting hyped about shooting shit up the enemies ran out.

It's nothing like the original games so the comparison between is pointless. Now if there were slaughter maps or an official map pack like Plutonia for it, I'd give it a new spin.

Some good wads I'd recommend playing:

Zone 400, really bland at first. The maps are small and get really challenging after a few, completely original music but sometimes the score is really unfitting.

Resurgence, from the creator of Speed of Doom wad, which means progressively longer and more difficult maps.

Abandon, takes the mantle as one of the most visually impressive and impossibly difficult wads. I barely managed to beat the first one without saves, but it seems nobody has beaten any of the other ones from start to finish.

Slaughterfest 2011 and especially 2012 have some quality maps in them, but a lot of garbage, especially the latter half. MAP17 by Ribbiks from SF2012 has to be the most memorable of them all. It's doable but will definitely challenge anyone.
