Yeah, obviously not holding my breath. I could use a scrapper as well, but that will still be a ton of work.

I'll give Zaiger a ring again soon. If I don't get a response by the first we will go with plan B, scrapping the data and manually going brick by brick.

If there are two companies with similar names in the same type of business/service and one has legal ownership the legal ownership can sue for damages. Our traffic becomes his traffic and any revenue becomes his. Even if you registered the name their would be a confusion since the services would be so similar. For example, I can't start a car company with the name of Chevy, obvious brand confusion. However, one could set up a hotel chain named Chevrolet. (But why tie your company to a GM product.)

I would suggest that it's time to change the name. Which you already have. Mailhub. Users can call the place EDF but the splash page and any EDF type banners or logos will have to be wiped or pulled.

As much as it pains me, ChadED/F may be killed by VirginEDF if this goes to court. We may get away with this situation now, being as the site is officially, "mailhub." But if the plan is to move to a private server, then some serious consideration to a name/brand change must take place.

and also that outsiders only interested in the old articles
i have this suggestion:

dont make it look like ed
like dont copypaste the front page with the xotn that change after 2 days
my usggestion would be to
  1. fully restore old articles for nostalgics
  2. make them more accessible (categorize, fill up portals, something better than the related articles section, etc.)
  3. feature those for a long time instead of having xotn with comteporary stuff that yt personaliteis and other cover better anyway
ALSO try a newer wiki version with mobile support (look at wikipedia from mobile: looks different than old ed wiki)
everything shoul be built with ease of access in top priorty


of course this just my own opinion and u do whatevs u wish
i wont take part in and condone a doxbin site and encouragement for harassment

this actually sounds like a pretty good idea. maybe call the old articles "vintage" if we go that route?

Not exactly true. I was on EDF last year before it tanked, again, but it's true that I'm not a lifer who spent years and years on various iterations of the forum.

But ya know what? That's how you GROW the user base - with NEW blood. Sure, you could get the old gang together of just 8-12 people who spend each day in a circlejerk like old farts who do nothing but tell stories about their glory years. But that's basically all that happened on the Serb server EDF and it was a lousy experience for new people.

And then you would have really old farts like GriperSupreme who demanded that anyone new be muzzled or banned. Of course, they could never quite figure out why that forum stalled and wasn't able to grow....

The userbase drastically increases whenever you are absent. Jus' sayin'.
