Barrabas Oct 22, 2024 Driftwood learned to play the guitar at a young age on his grandfather's homemade instrument. Driftwood used that unique guitar throughout his career and noted that its neck was made from a fence rail, its sides from an old ox yoke, and the head and bottom from the headboard of his grandmother's bed.[1] This homemade instrument produced a pleasant, distinctive, resonant sound.

it's an acoustics thing between string and body size of the instrument and ties back to that "fullness" of sound i previously mentioned.
the viola has larger strings and thus produces a slightly deeper and richer tone than the violin.
i started off playing viola, my father (when i did meet him) bought it for me when i was in 5th grade at a pawn shop as my mother was too poor to buy an instrument.
i had originally wanted to play violin, and when i realized at the end of 6th grade that if i just bought an e string and shifted the other strings over it would have the same string layout as a violin, i did so.
