Usually, this is because birds use sight and not smell to locate seeds and their mental maps haven't gone over to that place yet. I have two feeder locations, with one being added later and what the birds assess to be a more dangerous area and the seed lasts twice as long even though the two feeders are about 30 feet apart.it has been up for 2 days now n i have not seen a single bird at it, possibly because unfamiliar feeder size
