Please keep darkie away from blondie. Miscegenation never turns out well.
0/10, doesn't know how chicken genetics work

tbh i google imaged "rabbit riding a rooster" trying to find some western cowboy art or something else that would fit the dune sandworm theme i was going with n there were only kitschy grandma ceramics and bun on chicken sexual violence so i went with the second

mercury's hatches

which hen was the one who was violence prone? i recall you had a problem with a hen that would kill some of the peepers.

it's a breed difference i'm guessing? both old english game hens have tried mercin' full yellow chicks.
look how cozy little buddy looks all tucked up in mom's feathers

honey doesn't want to be grilled chicken but he is a chicken that wants to grill (that's mesquite wood for flavoring)

in stark contrast to mercury, an absolute angel

the yellow nugget has some old english game in it, as it's getting some stripe in the feathers like little nuggetino has
nuggetino in front here, because mercury n the babies are in the coop and i would not dare disturb them for camwhoring atm
20240710_153344.jpg

also, nuggetoni in back there has started crowing he's such a big boy i'm so proud of him
ed: his feathers are gorgeous

honey n boo have been scrappin' over second place roo. both are a little beat up but honey won. i know cuz i came home n boo was off by himself in the woods near the edge of the property listenin' to simple plan "how could this happen to me?"
think ima put one of the boys down to alleviate some tension. not little buddy, but the other old english game roo. bro has now fathered 4 chicks at this point so it seems the logical choice to do so to cut back on infighting and potential future inbreeding

downside is i have tried to put him down before n found myself unable to do so since he looks exactly like a non-defective little buddy

Can’t you give away one of the roosters to someone who needs or wants one? Why must you always resort to cold blooded murder?

we had a bit of a heat dome with some soul-crushing temps, so i have been focusing on icing the birds n keeping them cool. bandit went broody again n had a chick hatch. will post a pic of that child later. artemis' eggs ended up duds but her n goober are fighting over the opportunity to sit on one egg. one.

Visited a former neighbour this summer that got into chikins a couple years before you. Slippery slope.
Starts with chikins and a kitchen garden, before you know it you're whipping serfs at your farm estate whilst alpacas look on disdainfully.
Crazy cat lady meets agriculture :)

you seem extra bitchy these days, how much for a thai massage with happy ending these days in the frozen wastes of the northern continent? i'm willing to cough up the money if it means quality of the forum will increase by a promile

Did I in any way say it was a bad thing?
Before the forum was nuked I did post in the old thread about myself wanting to get goats to keep the forest new growth at bay and even then mentioned that animal husbandry is a slippery slope.
